Anemone Drift continues my interest in sea-life and microscopic worlds. Having grown up on the cliffs of the South Coast, staring into the eye of Bass Strait and spending long summers snorkelling around the back beach at Flinders, I am deeply inspired by the life-giving waters of the oceans and what inhabits them.

Underwater fields of mysterious glowing sea-life, anemones, seaweeds, nudibranchs, algae, bioluminescent organisms and all the magical miniscule creatures of this otherworldly zone inspire and influence the subjects, atmospheres and pictorial spaces of my paintings.

In Anemone Drift, I wanted to create a peaceful, soothing feeling like swimming underwater amongst magnificent coral reefs with the gentle sway of anemone and seagrass beds in the ocean’s current, as well as alluding to other biological worlds of cell-life and plant growth.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as creating a talking point for years to come.
