ABOUT THIS PAINTING

This big painting allows you to come in close to experience and enjoy an artwork inspired by the microscopic sea-life found in rockpools and coral reefs. And there is much for the eye to enjoy and explore in the enchanting and highly detailed surface.

I love to explore and make connections with fragments of life and all things microscopic and aquatic. I am deeply inspired by the life-giving waters of the sea. The vast space of water, bioluminescent organisms or miniscule algae are forms I use to act as memory triggers referencing our place in and responsibility to the fragile natural world.

The reference to the “Shape Shifter’ in the title is talking about the fluidity of nature’s forms and especially in the micro-worlds where cells and molecules collide, split and morph into different shapes.

I just love the gentle colour combinations I have used in this painting. My choices were inspired by looking into the tiny sea life of rock pools and coral reefs. The jewel like violets and blue, the earthy yellow ochre and the fluffy whites and creamy yellows all working together to create the wonderful abundance within the waters of life.

The big. The tiny. The sea. The molecules. The microscopic. These things I think about and look at when I create these paintings. They can be viewed as miniscule cell life just as easily as a field of wild flowers or an underwater garden with floating coral blooms.

”I feel like I am gently floating like jelly-fish” is a lovely comment I so often receive from this series.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls the wow factor and a splash of colour for years to come.
