This little stunner floats and glows like a delicate sea creature.

‘Bio Lumo IV’ continues with my obsession and the joy I see in microscopic-worlds, biology and sea-life, exploring the most miniscule fragments of the universe. The circular motifs and patterns allude to cellular life forms, dainty aquatic-life and to the ethereal otherworldliness of the building blocks of life like cells, amoeba, and molecules and as the title suggests, bioluminescent creatures. The cluster of circles can be viewed as miniscule cell life just as easily as a deep underwater scene with drifting mysterious organisms like nudibranchs or jellyfish.

The dramatic dark and light contrast in this painting not only creates an otherworldly floaty feel but also alludes to scientific photography and the dark-lit film documentation of microscopic worlds. I hint at the photographic reading of light giving the ‘bokeh’ effect, a soft out-of-focus blurry glow.

Ultimately my aim was to create something universal, sublime and beautiful that connects with our memories of nature and feelings of tranquillity and beauty.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls interest and a spot of otherworldly nature for years to come.
