‘Bioluminous Ocean Dancer’ continues with my fascination in the sublime beauty found in microscopic worlds, miniscule sea-life and the effervescence contained within the waters of all life.

All the tiny fragments of the universe and patterns made by nature and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew up in and by the sea. Bioluminescent organisms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of sea creatures from my memories of Snorkelling around the back beach at Flinders, Australia. All these things inspire and inform the subjects of my paintings, like the organic round forms, and influence the three-dimensional spaces, colours and tonalities in each artwork.

Within this painting, I aimed to create underwater fields of magical glowing creatures occupying mysterious dark-lit spaces. I am drawn to the nuances of light and dark and often reference the blurred light or ‘bokeh’ of photography, the dark-light of microscopic imagery, and all the image making documentary world of revealing life’s glow. I mention man-made illumination, as this is the shining light that lets us see these special universes.

Ultimately my paintings are about connecting to our sense of awe and wonder at the beauty of nature and the miraculous building blocks of all life.

Many viewers feel a gentle freedom from this series of paintings. Uplifting and peaceful like being underwater with jellyfish floating by.

What I also enjoy about my paintings is that they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls beauty and a talking point for years to come.
