'Rock Pool Blooms III’ continues in my fascination with the minutiae of life and aquatic themes. It belongs to my ‘Bio Bloom’ Series exploring the sublime beauty of microscopic life and the natural world as I am deeply inspired by nature and the forces that shape it. All the tiny fragments of the universe and patterns of life. Cellular and body forms, skins, water, minuscule plant growth and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew in and by the sea. Reef and rock forms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of amorphic sea creatures from my memories of Snorkelling and rock-pooling around the south coast of Victoria, Australia. All these things I think about and look at when I am creating these paintings.

The shapes I have used and their arrangement are intended to form a visual intrigue that moves the eye in and out of focus as we experience all the different layers of the painting and the otherworldliness of secret unseen worlds. The hope is to relate and connect to our memories of things in nature and our bodies. The colours aim to reflect nature and are inspired by the mini-worlds discovered in rock pools and coral reefs and sea creatures. Some fun for the eye and the mind.

‘Rock Pool Blooms III’ can be viewed as miniscule cell life just as easily as an underwater sea garden with drifting corals and anemone blooms. Ultimately it is about connecting with our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous building blocks of life. And then our reflection on the fragility of these vulnerable natural worlds and our precarious position as guardians of this earth.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls interest and colour for years to come.
