There is much here for your eyes to explore. The dramatic darks and subtle lights in this painting create an otherworldly feel. The background of the artwork has a soft focus, this together with the defined circular forms drifting daintily across the surface move the eye in and out of focus. The blurring effect I use creates an ethereal amorphous mysterious feel to the piece. The coral pinks and warm apricot colours give the painting a rich warm quality.
‘Sometimes of Ether and Water’ continues with my fascination in the sublime beauty found in micro-worlds, biology, the sea and the effervescence and light contained within the all life. Thus, it reflects my 'Bio Luminous' and ‘Nocturnal Cluster’ art series explores the patterns of glowing and blurred light caught in fleeting moments. The atmosphere is moody, soft and out of focus to contrast the surprise of the dazzling light beams.
This artwork is inspired by the feeling and memories of long drives back home through city lights and around the bay. The curves and dips in the road and headlights coming towards us. And all the lights reflected across the water on the bay as we cruise around the coast. Watching the lines of lights on the horizon, the passing ocean liners and cargo ships, moon and the stars reflections on the velvet surface of the sea. All the feelings of these things and the knowing that we are nearly home to safety, comfort and the warmth. But at the same time so pretty you want to just keep driving ‘The Long Way Home’. A magical time.
The circles here relate to the luminosity and patterns made by light in nature. Beams of light and rain on surfaces like glass or a car windscreen. Or the photographic reading of light giving the ‘bokeh’ effect, a soft out-of-focus blur of luminosity. The reference to light is about creating a glow, an incandescence, a moment of illumination, something mysterious, magical and special imbued with special moments of hope in a brighter future.
This series also continues with my fascination in the sublime of micro-worlds, biology and sea-life, exploring the most miniscule fragments of the universe. The circular organic motifs and the organic cluster patterns allude to cellular life forms, dainty aquatic-life and to the visceral otherworldliness of the building blocks of life like cells, photons, and molecules and as the title suggests, the effervescence contained within the waters of life.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls finesse with a splash of colour for years to come.
